Description
Low vision solar shield filters are essential for enhancing the visual experience of individuals with low vision. Eschenbach and Dioptics Medical Products have collaborated to create Solar Shield® filters specifically designed to aid low vision patients. Available in five lens tints, including gray, yellow, amber, orange, and the newly added plum, these filters are created for optimal contrast enhancement.
These Solar Shield® contrast-enhancing filters come in three frame sizes tailored to fit varying eyewear needs: Small, Medium (Oval), and Large. The Small frame is perfect for patients with smaller eyewear or those who do not wear glasses. In contrast, the Medium and Large sizes are designed to comfortably fit over standard prescription eyewear.
For those selecting Large frames, these filters fit over prescription frames with a maximum sizing of 6"w x 2"h (153mm x 49mm). The included amber polycarbonate lens offers medium blue light filtering, crucial for enhancing contrast and improving visual acuity. Notably, it provides complete protection by blocking 100% of UVA/UVB light as well as 100% of visible light up to 511 nm.
Medium (Oval) frames cater to prescription frames not exceeding 5 3/8"w x 2 3/8"h (138mm x 59mm). With this size, the orange polycarbonate lens similarly provides medium blue light filtering, enhancing contrast while ensuring protection against harmful rays by blocking 100% UVA/UVB and visible light up to 511 nm.
Finally, Small frames, which replace the previous Cateye design, accommodate prescription frames with a maximum of 5 1/2"w x 1 5/8"h (142mm x 42mm). These frames also feature an amber polycarbonate lens offering medium blue light filtering that focuses on contrast enhancement and visual acuity, fulfilling the same protective criteria.
With the introduction of these low vision solar shield filters, practitioners can offer patients enhanced safety and comfort during their daily activities. Diligently crafted for the low vision community, Solar Shield® filters provide the necessary tools for improved visual experiences.
